Balhelvie Farm is 6 miles east of
Newburgh on the Southern Bank of the Tay Estuary.
Farmed by the Wilson Family since
the mid 60's, Balhelvie is 400 acres in size and is a mixed family-run unit.
80 Suckler
Cows and their offspring graze the pastures on the farm along with a flock of
250 ewes.
Half of the Cows calve in the
autumn from September through to November, with the remainder calving in the Spring from March through to May. Two Aberdeen Angus bulls
ensure quality calves.
A variety of crops: Wheat, Barley,
Oil Seed Rape and Fodder Beet are grown on the farm both as feed for the
livestock and for selling. Some of the grass is also harvested as both silage
and hay for winter fodder.
Having enjoyed the taste of our
home produced beef ourselves for many years, we started selling beef direct to
the public in 2001, firstly to friends and neighbours, but as word has spread
of our quality product so our customer base has increased.
We now sell beef and lamb both
from the farm, and at Farmers Markets in St. Andrews, Dunfermline and Cupar.
